Tŷ Ogof is an exciting mission plan of Swansea and Gower Methodist Circuit, for extending the work done through Ogof Adullam.
Ogof Adullam is a drop in centre based at our Brunswick Church run by a Project Co-ordinator and Assistant Co-ordinator and a team of volunteers. It is now in its sixth year and provides hospitality, fellowship, advice and help to their guests who regularly number 50 or more on each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evening. The guests are typically, homeless, ex-prisoners, asylum seekers, sufferers of drug and alcohol abuse and many with mental health issues. It has always been our vision to extend the work of Ogof Adullam through providing Recovery Housing in order to recover the broken lives of those suffering from drug and alcohol abuse.
This has become more and more urgent as loss of life in Swansea due to drugs and alcohol dependency continues.
We have decided to call the home Tŷ Ogof in recognition that this is an extension of Ogof Adullam which has built a considerable reputation through its work. Some of the guests of Tŷ Ogof will come from people passing through Ogof Adullam although the home will be open to taking guests from elsewhere.
The home will provide the opportunity for those committed to recovering from addiction to receive the necessary care and through a proven 12 Step Addictions Recovery Programme to restore their lives
We have identified that the home needs to accommodate at least 16, in order for it to be financially viable.
We expect the home to cost in the region of £400,000, and Swansea and Gower Methodist Circuit are committed to providing £100,000 towards the purchase of a suitable property for Recovery Housing and will be applying for a loan for the balance.
We have identified that in order to cover set-up costs and cash flow during the first six months of operation during the gradual intake of guests to the home, we will need approximately £150,000.
We have therefore launched a fundraising operation with a target of £150,000.
Through Tŷ Ogof we will not solve the problems of all of these people with broken lives, but we will be making an effort to do all that we can.
We hope you will feel able to become involved in our work towards this end.
